Perisher Resort Streamlines Data Security and PCI Compliance with Imperva Incapsula

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., August 14, 2013 – Imperva, Inc. (NYSE: IMPV), a pioneer and leader of a new category of business security solutions for critical applications and high-value business data in the data center, today announced that Perisher Resort has implemented its Imperva Incapsula cloud-based Web application firewall (WAF) service.

The transparent website security of Imperva Incapsula WAF will assist Perisher Resort by enhancing enterprise data security for multiple platforms and business units, and proactively meeting its Payment Card Industry (PCI) 6.6 mandatory compliance requirements.

Perisher Resort is responsible for over 100 ski slopes across four unique resort areas including Perisher Valley, Guthega, Blue Cow, and Smiggin Holes, plus the key business units of Skitube alpine railway, retail and food and beverage facilities, guest accommodation, Snowsports School, and equipment hire outlets. During peak season its network activity increases by up to 90 percent with an increase in users, devices, and network traffic as vacationers monitor webcams for up-to-the-minute snow conditions.

After an automated spam bot email attack subjected the resort to thousands of daily emails from unknown sources for a one week period, Perisher’s IT team decided to select a new security solution, one that provides greater awareness and visibility of its network traffic.

“Our commercial operations are extensive, and in peak season trading conditions we need to ensure that the influx to our network is both protected and also meets PCI compliance requirements,” said Wayne Grixti, Senior Network and Systems Administrator, Perisher.

“Following a competitive tender review and pilot program, we selected Imperva Incapsula WAF ahead of competitive offerings for its minimal management overhead and ability to work in our existing environment with no impact on network speeds. With Imperva Incapsula WAF, the resort’s websites and applications are better protected against malicious automated attacks, such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL Injection (SQLi), and previously unknown threats. Imperva Incapsula WAF is now monitoring traffic and performance more effectively across the multiple e-commerce sites, further reducing network management time for the IT team. Caching techniques of the Imperva Incapsula WAF have resulted in additional cost savings with the resort’s hosting provider by reducing website bandwidth usage and lowering web server utilization.

Imperva Incapsula automatically generates PCI compliance reports for the resort, assisting IT and management teams in identifying areas of compliance prior to bank audits without the need for costly consulting engagements.
