London, UK – April 11, 2011 – Imperva, the data security leader, will be presenting a talk on “Cyber Vigilantes: How Security Researchers are Hurting the Business of Hacking” at Infosecurity Europe 2011 on Wednesday 20th April at 3.20pm at Earls Court, London.

Rob Rachwald, Imperva’s Director of Security Strategy, will be discussing new hacker attack techniques recently uncovered in Imperva’s research labs. The findings are a result of Imperva’s Hacker Intelligence Initiative which focuses on providing deeper insight into how cybercriminals conduct large-scale cyber-attacks, as well as shedding light on the evolution of the underground business of cyber-crime.

The session will look at what security practitioners have discovered about hackers as a result of implementing a proactive security approach. This approach has given deep insight into hacker activity including: the discovery of full-fledged Cross Site Scripting (XSS) attack campaigns, server-generated Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, a data collection containing millions of users passwords, and cloud-based technologies used by hackers.

The talk will also include insight into the following questions:

  • What can the security industry learn from proactive security and how can they adapt tactics accordingly?
  • What methods are deployed by the security community to tap into hacker activity?
  • What attack campaigns have been unearthed?
  • What new technologies are being used by hackers, and how t have they adapted business models?
  • What can security teams gain from this research in order to apply the necessary security controls?

“To truly protect an organization, security professionals must have a deep understanding of their enemy. This session does just that: it focuses on providing deeper insight into how cybercriminals operate and sheds light on the evolution of the underground business of cyber-crime. I will be showing the most recent attacks and hacker’s modus operandi, as well as helping the audience gain an understanding of which controls they should apply to secure their systems against the evolving hacking industry”, says Rob Rachwald.

Imperva’s session will be held on 20th April at 3.20pm in the Technical Theatre at Infosecurity Europe, Earls Court, London. For further information visit:
