With the summer coming to a close we are now entering into “Magic Quadrant” season for the application security market and this means the latest edition of the 2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Web and API Protection. Well, we are pleased with the result because once again Imperva has been positioned as a Leader.
Putting aside our multiple-year track record for being named as a Leader — 7 years counting for our WAF solution under the previous report title, 2 years now for WAAP under the new name but who is counting — the change of the name is just scratching the surface of the changes to the market and this year’s Magic Quadrant helps to underscore this.
Being a long-time vendor in the application security market has certainly been a part of our success in so much as we have seen a lot of threats and evolved our tactics and our offerings to address the needs of our customers. In fact, we see (and stop) on average over 26 Billion attacks, every day.
In very much the same way the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls has evolved into addressing broader requirements across a fragmented market aiming to converge security solutions into the WAAP market. We first saw this with WAFs that incorporated application layer DDoS. Then in 2019, consolidation started to happen with a few vendors acquiring Bot mitigation vendors that helped to bolster protections for online fraud use cases. Then in the last 2 years we have seen a similar consolidation of API security into many cloud WAF solutions. We have been a part of this ride as well making several acquisitions that we have successfully incorporated into our WAAP solution.
Imperva knows how much the applications market and the threat landscape have changed in the last 10 years. In fact, we have responded to these changes by introducing the first platform that combines best-of-breed technologies to protect applications, microservices, APIs, serverless functions, and mobile applications that didn’t exist only a few years ago and would require multiple vendors to address.
To protect legacy, hybrid, and modern applications now and in the future, WAAP needs to stop advanced attacks from DDoS, evasive bots, and API vulnerabilities. This is why our platform offers a single-stack solution with multiple layers of security and why we continue to refine our Web Application and API Protection. Our WAAP solution enables customers to deploy in a variety of ways, from appliances in data centers to SaaS delivered to a natively deployed solution for AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as part of cloud-native applications and workflows. Phew, while that might be saying a lot we believe our customers deserve it.
